Output waffle errors during functional testing

While working on !62 (merged) it became obvious that we don't log the handy waffle errors. Here's a simple MR that does the job - highlighting the most obvious pain points.

Note this is based on top of !62 (merged) but I can rebase on top of master if people prefer.
