Initial build fixes for macOS

Disclaimer:

1. This does not include a fix for netlink issue #913 and without that the build will fail. Locally I just excluded related code, since it cannot be built on macOS, however that may not be a proper solution. Hopefully someone fixes that correctly.
2. At the moment I can only run the build on macOS 14. I do care about supporting earlier versions (back to powerpc in fact), but for a while away from the hardware to test that. Gonna return to this later on, but it is not a stopper.
